A Chorus Line
Assembly Rooms Theatre, Durham
Wednesday 16th - Saturday 19th June 2010
DULOG will fill the Assembly Rooms this summer with a compelling production of one of the most exciting and original of all musicals. A Chorus Line shines the spotlight not on the stars, but on the usually faceless and unknown chorus, following the final-stages of casting for a new Broadway show. After an electric opening, in which these 'gypsies' are really put through their paces in a desperate attempt to impress the director and win a place in the final line, the field is cut down to seventeen. Standing on a bare, empty stage, all attention is focused on those remaining, thrusting them forward for their moment in the limelight and the chance to show off their talent. But as the show progresses, the deserted stage gives nowhere to hide as the auditionees are forced to reveal to the director, and to the audience "what's not on their resumé". At times funny, at times heartbreaking, their stories provide a unique insight into the lives of these individuals who want nothing more than the chance to dance.

Merrily We Roll Along
C Venues - C too, Edinburgh
Thursday 6th - Monday 31st August 2009
Based on the 1934 play by George S. Kaufman and Moss Hart, Merrily We Roll Along is one of Sondheim‘s most captivating shows. The musical runs from end to beginning, showing how Frank, once an optimistic and idealistic young student, became the man he is today. Moving backwards from cynical Hollywood executive to successful Broadway composer, Frank’s story unwinds and winds with those of the people who he has loved and lost along the way. Combining a show that has been deemed “at least three times as intriguing as most musicals” by the Times, with the opportunity to perform in Edinburgh, makes Merrily We Roll Along a production not to miss out on.
