                    Why join?

If you want to get involved specifically with musical theatre in Durham, then this is the society for you. Whether on stage as a lead actor, dancing in the chorus, working backstage as a techie, playing in the pit band, throwing together hundreds of costumes or out front directing, DULOG provides every opportunity to get involved.

We are the largest theatre company in the university, staging 5 musicals a year including our annual show in the Gala Theatre. This professional 500-seat theatre has hosted the likes of DULOG's Guys and Dolls in 2009, West Side Story in 2010 and The Producers in 2011, all to high critical acclaim. Our main venue, the Assembly Rooms theatre is located on the Bailey and has been used most recently in the staging of A Chorus Line, The Threepenny Opera and many Gilbert and Sullivan operettas. DULOG also frequently takes a show up to the Fringe festival in Edinburgh.

Many involved with DULOG during their time at Durham University have gone onto to gain places at prestigious theatre schools such as LAMDA, Bristol Old Vic and Guildhall. A recent graduate, Ben Salter, is now starring on the West End in Betwixt, a brand new musical comedy. And for those who have gone on to work in other fields far from the stage, many reflect upon their involvement in DULOG as a defining experience in their time here at Durham:

"I will forever be indebted to DULOG for everything that I learnt during the time that I spent as president of the society. The various challenges that my team and I overcame helped hone my team leadership, time management, creative thinking and presentation skills, to name but a few. Moreover, I am certain that my overall involvement in the society led to me becoming a more confident and well-rounded individual."
                    - Oliver Stevenson, Press Officer for Eurostar International Ltd. (DULOG President 2009-10)

"DULOG has given me some incredible experiences during my time at university. As a member of various production teams, I have learnt responsibility, teamwork and leadership. I believe DULOG was instrumental in giving me the skills required to get a job in my chosen profession. DULOG is as much a business as a
society: it is important to make a profit on each show, something which requires organisation and maturity."
                    - Andrew MacFarlane, 2011 graduate, Mitsubishi UFJ Morgan Stanley Securities

The benefits of getting involved with DULOG are clear to see. If you want to be added to the mailing list, just sign up at the Freshers’ Fair or e-mail dulog.society@durham.ac.uk. You will receive all the information regarding future productions, reviews, production team interviews, acting/band auditions and performances in regular e-mails.
